Inaugural Hearse and Spooky Vendor Show Comes to Howard County

The Crossroad Casket Cruisers Hearse Club is set to host its first-ever Hearse and Spooky Vendor Show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Howard County 4-H Fairgrounds.

This unique event invites hearse enthusiasts, Halloween lovers and the community to come together for a day of fun and fundraising for a good cause.

Nancy Akin has always loved Halloween. After inheriting a hearse from a friend who shared her passion for the spooky and out-of-the-ordinary, she was hooked.

“I have a sticker on my dash that says, ‘Yes, it’s a real hearse. No, I’m not afraid to drive it,’” she laughed.

The Crossroad Casket Cruisers Hearse Club boasts a couple dozen members throughout Indiana. Akin wanted to host a local event because many hearse-related gatherings are out of state.

The show will feature hearse cars and other spooky vehicles, as well as spooky vendors, costumes and food trucks.

“We decided if we were going to do it, we were going to do something good with the money,” Akin said.

All proceeds from the event will go toward a meaningful cause: helping to pay for the funerals of veterans, children and individuals without families who cannot afford burial costs. This initiative underscores the club’s commitment to supporting those in need within the community.

“No parent is ready to bury a child,” said Akin. “It can be a shock and a slap to the finances. Veterans’ families shouldn’t have to worry about that.”

Spectators can join the fun for just $2 per person, and children younger than 6 can attend for free.
